Regular Season Round 13: Matanzas - Capitalinos 58-62

Very important is a home loss of third ranked Guerreros (7-5) against fourth ranked Capitalinos (7-5) on Saturday night. Host Guerreros were defeated by Capitalinos in a tough game at home 58-62. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of Guerreros. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Guerreros won fourth quarter 19-14. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded Guerreros 30-16 including 20 on the defensive glass. Capitalinos brought some defensive toughness making 9 blocks. Freddy Maria nailed 13 points and 6 rebounds for the winning side and the former international power forward Jasul Rivero (203-93) accounted for 14 points. The former international guard Yuniskel Molina (185-93) came up with a double-double by scoring 28 points and 6 rebounds and point guard Yasmany Deschapelles (181-85) added 13 points and 8 steals respectively for Guerreros in the defeat. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. Capitalinos moved-up to third place, which they share with Matanzas. Capitalinos will play against Ciego (#5) in Avila in the next round. Guerreros will play on the road against the league's leader Villa Clara in Santa Clara and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
