Regular Season Round 21: JAC Sants - Cornella 52-78

Date: February 26, 2017
The game between closely ranked teams ended with 9th ranked JAC Sants' (7-11) home loss to eighth ranked Cornella (9-9) in Barcelona 52-78 on Sunday. The game was mostly controlled by Cornella. JAC Sants was better in second period 20-18. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They dominated on the defensive end, holding JAC Sants to just 7 points in third quarter. Cornella dominated down low during the game scoring 46 of its points in the paint compared to JAC Sants' 18. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. It was a good game for center Alexandre Sanmartin (202-84) who led his team to a victory with 14 points and 8 rebounds. Guard Joan Pilan (192-93) contributed with 17 points for the winners. Four Cornella players scored in double figures. Forward Gerard Rodriguez (190-98) answered with 9 points and point guard Alex Olive (-96) added 5 points and 4 assists in the effort for JAC Sants. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to get some rest. Cornella moved-up to sixth place in Group C-A, which they share with Arenys and Castellbisbal. Loser JAC Sants keeps the ninth position with 11 games lost. Cornella will face Santfeliuenc (#10) in Sant Feliu in the next round. JAC Sants will play on the road against Mataro and hope to win that game.
