No shocking result in a game in Rishon Le-Zion where fifth ranked Hapoel Jerusalem (12-9) defeated 7th ranked Maccabi Rishon (10-10) 82-68 on Sunday. The game was mostly controlled by Hapoel Jerusalem. Maccabi Rishon was better in third quarter 28-16. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Hapoel Jerusalem made 21-of-27 free shots (77.8 percent) during the game. They also forced 19 Maccabi Rishon turnovers. Maccabi Rishon was plagued by 25 personal fouls down the stretch. The best player for the winners was American Jerome Dyson (191-87, college: Connecticut) who scored 22 points and 4 assists. The other American import power forward Travis Peterson (208-85, college: Samford) chipped in 17 points. Four Hapoel Jerusalem players scored in double figures. American-Belarusian point guard Maalik Wayns (185-91, college: Villanova) produced 13 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists and the former international swingman Shawn Dawson (198-93) added 14 points and 5 assists respectively for the hosts. Hapoel Jerusalem moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Hapoel Eilat. Defending champion Maccabi Rishon dropped to the sixth position with ten games lost. Hapoel Jerusalem will face Hapoel Eilat (#4) on the road in the next round. Maccabi Rishon will play against Maccabi Haifa and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
