Regular Season Round 14: Pinar del Rio - Santiago 83-65

There was no surprise in Rio where 6th ranked Santiago (4-9) was defeated by second ranked Pinar (11-3) 83-65 on Sunday. Strangely Santiago outrebounded Pinar 32-10 including a 20-4 advantage in defensive rebounds. The former international point guard Osmel Oliva (178-87) had a double-double by scoring 15 points and 16 steals to lead the charge for the winners and Diagmani Vazquez (192-87) chipped in 16 points and 5 steals (on 8-of-9 shooting from the field) during the contest. Five Pinar players scored in double figures. The former international forward Esteban Martinez (192-87) responded with 25 points and guard Roigelis Ochoa (190-93) produced a double-double by scoring 13 points and 12 rebounds. Pinar maintains second position with 11-3 record having just two points less than leader Villa Clara. Loser Santiago dropped to the fifth place with nine games lost. They share the position with Ciego de Avila.
