Regular Season Round 21: HyPo - Korikouvot 92-74

There was a small surprise when sixth ranked HyPo (15-9) defeated 4th placed Korikouvot (16-8) in Hyvinkaa 92-74 on Thursday. The hosts trailed by 1 point at the halftime before their 53-34 charge in the second half, which allowed them to win the game. HyPo dominated down low during the game scoring 58 of its points in the paint compared to Korikouvot's 34. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. It was a good game for American guard De'Andre Upchurch (188-91, college: Tarleton St.) who led his team to a victory with 25 points, 8 rebounds and 9 assists. Forward Ilkka Blomqvist (196-84) contributed with a double-double by scoring 14 points and 12 rebounds for the winners. Guard Henri Kantonen (197-97) answered with a double-double by scoring 20 points, 14 rebounds and 5 assists and swingman Teemu Knihtinen (195-98) added 4 points and 10 rebounds in the effort for Korikouvot. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. HyPo moved-up to fifth place in Division. Loser Korikouvot keeps the fourth position with eight games lost. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.
