Regular Season Round 43: Sendai 89ers - Toshiba BT 86-91

Very expected game when 5th ranked Sendai 89ers (11-30) were defeated at home by first ranked Toshiba Thunders (35-6) 91-86 on Friday. Toshiba Thunders made 22-of-29 free shots (75.9 percent) during the game. Sendai 89ers were plagued by 26 personal fouls down the stretch. It was a great evening for American forward Nick Fazekas (211-85, college: Nevada) who led his team to a victory scoring 34 points (!!!), 9 rebounds and 5 assists. Senegalese swingman Mamadou Diouf (197-77, college: Delaware) helped adding 11 points and 11 rebounds. At the losing side American guard Wendell White (198-84, college: UNLV) responded with 25 points and 9 rebounds and South African center Tshilidzi Nephawe (208-89, college: N.Mexico St.) scored 20 points, 8 rebounds and 5 blocks. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches allowed to play bench players in such tough game. Toshiba Thunders have a solid series of four victories in a row. They maintain first place with 35-6 record. Loser Sendai 89ers keep the fifth position with 30 games lost. Toshiba Thunders will face Kyoto Hannar. (#4) at home in the next round. Sendai 89ers will play against the league's leader Aishin Sea Horses in Kariya and hope to win that game.
