Regular Season Round 26: HyPo - Kouvot 88-78

Leader HyPo delivered the twenty second victory. This time they beat 6th ranked Kouvottaret (11-14) 88-78 in Hyvinkaa. The game was mostly controlled by HyPo. Kouvottaret was better in third quarter 18-16. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They made 17-of-19 charity shots (89.5 percent) during the game. HyPo players were unselfish on offense dishing 24 assists. The former international center Taru Tuukkanen (192-77, college: Xavier) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 11 points, 14 rebounds, 7 assists and 4 steals. The former international swingman Henna Salomaa (177-89, college: Oakland) contributed with 19 points and 4 assists (was perfect 9-for-9 from the free throw line !!!) for the winners. HyPo's coach Miikka Sopanen allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. American forward Whitney Frazier (180-92, college: Louisiana Tech) replied with 21 points and 9 rebounds and her fellow American import forward Jacqueline Luna-Castro (188-93, college: Charleston) added 20 points and 5 rebounds in the effort for Kouvottaret. Five HyPo and four Kouvottaret players scored in double figures. HyPo have a solid four-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 22-3 record. Newly promoted Kouvottaret keeps the sixth place with 14 games lost. They share the position with ViVe. HyPo will play against Peli-Karhut (#4) in Kotka in the next round. Kouvottaret will play at home against Aanekosken and hopes to get back on the winning track.
