Regular Season Round 22: Cantbasket - Mondragon 71-53

There was no surprise in Santander where 11th ranked Mondragon (7-12) was defeated by second ranked Cantbasket (14-4) 71-53 on Saturday. Cantbasket dominated down low during the game scoring 46 of its points in the paint compared to Mondragon's 22. They outrebounded Mondragon 44-28 including a 32-21 advantage in defensive rebounds. Swingman Jaime Garcia (194-87) scored 19 points and 8 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and American forward Paul Larsen (198-92, college: USC Aiken) chipped in 18 points and 9 rebounds during the contest. Cantbasket's coach used an eleven-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. At the losing side guard Alex Lorenzo (188-94) responded with 7 points and 9 rebounds and Diosdado Medizabal scored 10 points and 6 rebounds. Cantbasket maintains second position in Group A-A with 14-4 record having just seventeen point less than leader Meridiano Baza. Mondragon lost third consecutive game. They keep the eleventh place with 12 games lost. Cantbasket will face Ardoi (#4) in Zizur Mayor in the next round. Mondragon will play at home against the league's leader Estela (#1) and hope to win that game.
