Very significant was Maitland Mustangs' just 2-point road victory against Bankstown Bruins 83-81. Bankstown Bruins were very close to get their first win. But it seems they have to wait a little bit longer. Maitland Mustangs dominated down low during the game scoring 58 of its points in the paint compared to Bankstown Bruins' 38. Maitland Mustangs brought some defensive toughness making 7 blocks. American forward Tyler Monroe (201, college: Azusa Pacific) nailed a double-double by scoring 30 points, 14 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 blocks for the winning side and Jack Edwards accounted for 16 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists. The former international guard Steven Markovic (190-85) came up with 27 points, 7 rebounds and 9 assists and Nic Pozoglou added 16 points and 10 rebounds respectively for Bankstown Bruins in the defeat. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Maitland Mustangs will play against Crusaders (#5) in Terrigal in the next round. Bankstown Bruins will play at home against Hills Hornets (#7) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
