Regular Season Round 22: Weert - Leeuwarden 99-79
Date: March 4, 2017
Bottom-ranked Weert managed to get a third victory, breaking the two-game losing streak. This time they outleveled sixth-ranked Leeuwarden 99-79. It's especially surprising that the victory came too easily and 20-point difference suggests that Weert is in a good shape to leave the bottom place. The game without a history. Weert led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. Weert outrebounded Leeuwarden 44-25 including a 22-5 advantage in offensive rebounds. Power forward Dyon Halman (204-94, agency: Court Side) notched a double-double by scoring 18 points and 13 rebounds to lead the effort and American-French point guard Aleek Pauline (185-87, college: Norfolk St.) supported him with 17 points and 5 rebounds. Weert's coach Radenko Varagic allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. Even 23 points by American guard Jordan Gregory (188-92, college: Montana) did not help to save the game for Leeuwarden. His fellow American import forward Denton Koon (203-92, college: Hofstra, agency: Court Side) added 19 points and 6 rebounds for lost side. Five Weert and four Leeuwarden players scored in double figures. Weert maintains eighth position with 3-19 record. Leeuwarden at the other side keeps the sixth place with 15 games lost. They share the position with Amsterdam. Weert will play against higher ranked Leiden (#3) at home in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. Leeuwarden will play against the league's second-placed Zwolle having rather not much hope for a victory.
