Regular Season Round 21: RC Celta - Valladolid 68-59

Very predictable result when eighth ranked Real Celta Vigo (10-11) won against at home 14th ranked Ponce Valladolid (4-17) 68-59 on Saturday. Ponce Valladolid trailed by 12 points at halftime and as many as 13 after three quarters before a 20-16 last quarter charge cut the deficit to 59-68 at the end of the game. Real Celta Vigo forced 22 Ponce Valladolid turnovers. Ponce Valladolid was plagued by 25 personal fouls down the stretch. It was a good game for guard Maria-Ylenia Manzanares (175-83) who led her team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 13 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists. American-Nigerian forward Cecilia Okoye (185-91, college: McNeese St.) contributed with a double-double by scoring 17 points and 10 rebounds for the winners. Five Real Celta Vigo players scored in double figures. American point guard Samaria Howard (170-94, college: Tenn Tech) answered with 28 points and 5 rebounds and the other American import guard Alyesha Lovett (183-93, college: Cincinnati) added 20 points in the effort for Ponce Valladolid. Ponce Valladolid's coach let to play eleven players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. The victory was the third consecutive win for Real Celta Vigo. They maintain eighth place in Group A with 10-11 record. Ponce Valladolid lost their fourth game in a row. Newly promoted team keeps the fourteenth position with 17 games lost. Real Celta Vigo will face higher ranked Joventut LC (#5) in Barcelona in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Ponce Valladolid will play at home against Cortegada (#3) and hope to win that game.
