Regular Season Round 16: Killester - DCU Mercy 56-78

The most interesting game was a derby match between two local teams from Dublin: DCU Mercy (#4) and 11890 Killester (#3). 11890 Killester was smashed at home by 22 points 56-78 and even the fact of playing on their own court did not help. DCU Mercy dominated down low during the game scoring 58 of its points in the paint compared to 11890 Killester's 34. DCU Mercy forced 26 11890 Killester turnovers. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when DCU Mercy made 14 blocks. American forward Sarah Fairbanks (185, college: St.Joseph's) fired a double-double by scoring 33 points (!!!) and 14 rebounds for the winners. The former international guard Aishling Sullivan (175-88) chipped in 20 points and 6 rebounds. American guard Leah Fechko (173-94, college: St.Francis, NY) produced 24 points and 7 rebounds (made all of her eight free throws) and guard Jade Daly (-91) added 6 points and 5 rebounds respectively for lost side. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. DCU Mercy (8-5) moved-up to third place. 11890 Killester at the other side dropped to the fourth position with six games lost. DCU Mercy are looking forward to face WIT Wildcats (#5) in Waterford in the next round. 11890 Killester will play at home against the league's leader Glanmire and is hoping to win this game.
