Regular Season Round 20: Landes - Villeneuve 80-83

The biggest surprise of round 20 was guest Villeneuve D'Ascq's (#3) road victory over Basket Landes (#4) 83-80 on Saturday evening. The guests trailed by 5 points after three quarters before their 27-19 charge, which allowed them to win the game. Villeneuve D'Ascq forced 19 Basket Landes turnovers. Strangely Basket Landes outrebounded Villeneuve D'Ascq 36-22 including 24 on the defensive glass. It was a great shooting night for Villeneuve D'Ascq especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 55.0 percentage. The best player for the winners was international forward Valerianne Ayayi (184-94) who scored 23 points and 5 assists (perfect from the field making all nine shots !!!). Ukrainian swingman Alina Iagupova (186-92, agency: LBM Management) chipped in 27 points. Spanish swingman Queralt Casas (177-92) produced 17 points and 8 rebounds and international Celine Dumerc (169-82) added 10 points, 7 rebounds and 9 assists respectively for the hosts. Five Basket Landes players scored in double figures. Villeneuve D'Ascq (14-6) have an impressive five-game winning streak. They maintain third position having just two points less than leader Lattes Montp. Basket Landes at the other side keeps the fourth place with seven games lost. Villeneuve D'Ascq are looking forward to face Lyon (#11) at home in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Basket Landes will play against Bourges (#5) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
