Regular Season Round 21: Espoo United - HBA-Marsky 99-76

Very expected game when 7th ranked HBA-Marsky (8-15) was smashed on the road by second ranked Espoo United (17-6) 99-76 on Sunday. The hosts trailed by 2 points after first quarter, but they stormed back to get the 14-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 99-76. Espoo United outrebounded HBA-Marsky 45-22 including a 16-5 advantage in offensive rebounds. They shot the lights out from three sinking 12 long-distance shots on high 57.1 percentage. It was a good game for American guard Omar Calhoun (198-93, college: Connecticut) who led his team to a victory with 29 points and 8 rebounds. His fellow American import point guard Jeb Ivey (190-80, college: Portland St.) contributed with 22 points, 5 rebounds and 7 assists for the winners. Forward Elias Valtonen (197-99) answered with 16 points and point guard Lassi Nikkarinen (184-97) added 13 points and 5 assists in the effort for HBA-Marsky. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Newly promoted Espoo United maintains second place in Division with 17-6 record having four points less than leader PuHu Juniorit. Loser HBA-Marsky keeps the seventh position with 15 games lost. Espoo United will face Jarvenpaa (#8) at home in the next round which should be theoretically another easy game. HBA-Marsky will play against the league's leader Lahti and hope to win that game.
