Regular Season Round 14: Al Riyadi - Tadamon 108-102
Date: March 5, 2017
There was no surprise in Beirut where 6th ranked Tadamon (5-9) was defeated by third ranked Al Riyadi (11-3) 108-102. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 27-19. But Tadamon won second period 24-18. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Al Riyadi players were unselfish on offense dishing 30 assists. Nigerian power forward Alade Aminu (210-87, college: Georgia Tech, agency: Three Eye Sports) notched a double-double by scoring 20 points and 12 rebounds to lead the effort and the former international swingman Jean Abdel-Nour (198-83) supported him with 25 points. Even 25 points and 6 assists by American guard Earvin Morris (196-94, college: UTEP) did not help to save the game for Tadamon. American-Dominican MJ Rhett (206-92, college: Mississippi) added 18 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists for the guests. Both teams had five players each who scored in double figures. Al Riyadi have an impressive seven-game winning streak. Defending champion moved-up to second place, which they share with Byblos. Tadamon lost fourth consecutive game. They keep the sixth position with nine games lost. Al Riyadi's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Beirut to the arena Hoops Club.
