Regular Season Round 26: Armann - Vestri 80-77

Armann has finally registered their first victory this season after 23 consecutive losses. They used home court advantage to defeat Vestri (8-14) 80-77. It looked good early as Vestri took a 1-point small lead at the end of first quarter. But then Armann had a 25-21 second period charge getting the lead and Vestri was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 77-80. Armann dominated down low during the game scoring 48 of its points in the paint compared to Vestri's 28. Guard Magnus Hjalmarsson (184) notched 17 points to lead the effort and Thorsteinn Hjorleifsson (-95) supported him with 10 points. Even 27 points and 7 rebounds by Serbian swingman Nebojsa Knezevic (196-87) did not help to save the game for Vestri. American forward Yima Chia-Kur (196-86, college: Arkansas St.) added 17 points and 8 rebounds for the guests. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Armann maintains ninth position with 1-23 record. Newly promoted Vestri keeps the sixth place with 14 games lost. Armann will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Vestri will play at home against Valur (#3) and hopes to get back on the winning track.
