Regular Season Round 25: Grindavik - Njardvik 73-72

The most exciting game of round 25 in the Dominos League took place in Grindavik. This derby game ended with only one-point defeat on the road of 6th ranked Njardvik (10-15) to eighth ranked Grindavik (4-21) 73-72 on Wednesday evening. Njardvik cut a 16-point halftime deficit to one at the end of the game. Strangely Njardvik outrebounded Grindavik 52-32 including a 17-5 advantage in offensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. The former international center Maria-Ben Erlingsdottir (187-88, college: UTRGV) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 19 points, 12 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners and American-Mexican guard Angela Rodriguez (173-91, college: Wisc.-Milwaukee, agency: Gamble Sports Management) chipped in 21 points, 5 rebounds, 8 assists and 4 steals. Four Grindavik players scored in double figures. At the losing side American swingman Carmen Tyson-Thomas (180-91, college: Syracuse, agency: Two Points) responded with a double-double by scoring 46 points (!!!), 20 rebounds and 6 assists and forward Linda-Ordis Robertsdottir (179-98) scored 8 points and 14 rebounds. Grindavik maintains eighth place with 4-21 record. Newly promoted Njardvik dropped to the fifth position with 15 games lost. They share it with Valur. Grindavik are looking forward to face higher ranked Valur (#5) in Reykjavik in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Njardvik will play at home against the league's second-placed Keflavik having rather not much hope for a victory.
