Regular Season Round 25: Franca - Vitoria 81-74

There was a minor upset when 5th ranked Universo/Vitoria (14-9) lost to fifth ranked Vivo/Franca (15-9) in Sao Paulo 74-81 on Thursday. Vivo/Franca made 27-of-35 free shots (77.1 percent) during the game. They also forced 20 Universo/Vitoria turnovers. Universo/Vitoria was plagued by 29 personal fouls down the stretch. Quite impressive performance for point guard Alexey Borges (188-95) who helped to win the game recording 16 points, 5 rebounds, 8 assists and 5 steals. The former international Lucas Cipolini (206-86, college: BYU-Hawaii) contributed with 17 points and 6 rebounds for the winners. The former international Arthur Silva (196-82) answered with 15 points and 6 rebounds and forward Renato Scholz (197-88) added 9 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists in the effort for Universo/Vitoria. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to get some rest. Vivo/Franca maintains fifth place with 15-9 record. Universo/Vitoria lost their third game in a row. They dropped to the sixth position with nine games lost. Vivo/Franca will face higher ranked Paschoalotto/Bauru (#4) at home in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Universo/Vitoria will play against SKY/Basquete and hope to win that game.
