Regular Season Round 38: San Lorenzo - La Union 88-64

Date: March 11, 2017
Not a big story in a game when 8th ranked La Union (18-22) was outscored by first ranked San Lorenzo (27-11) in Almagra 88-64 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by San Lorenzo. La Union was better in third quarter 23-21. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They made 19-of-21 free shots (90.5 percent) during the game. San Lorenzo looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. The former international Marcos Mata (201-86) orchestrated the victory by scoring 19 points and 7 rebounds. American forward Billy McShepard (208-87, college: Valdosta St., agency: Blacktop Management) contributed with 17 points and 6 rebounds for the winners. Four San Lorenzo players scored in double figures. San Lorenzo's coach Julio Cesar Lamas felt very confident that he used 10 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. American-Jamaican center Torin Francis (210-83, college: Notre Dame) replied with a double-double by scoring 20 points and 12 rebounds and the former international Diego Garcia (190-79) added 14 points in the effort for La Union. Defending champion maintains first position with 27-11 record. La Union lost third consecutive game. They keep the eighth place with 22 games lost. San Lorenzo will face Weber Bahia (#3) in Bahia Blanca in the next round, which may be the game of the day. La Union will play at home against Penarol (#8) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
