Regular Season Round 17: DCU Mercy - WIT Wildcats 59-51

There was no surprise in Dublin where 5th ranked WIT Wildcats (7-7) were defeated by third ranked DCU Mercy (9-5) 59-51 on Sunday. DCU Mercy outrebounded WIT Wildcats 49-25 including a 40-17 advantage in defensive rebounds. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when DCU Mercy made 12 blocks. American forward Sarah Fairbanks (185, college: St.Joseph's) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 13 points and 17 rebounds for the winners and the former international guard Sarah Woods (174-88) chipped in 18 points and 4 assists. Helena Rohan responded with 18 points and American guard Brittney Dunbar (173, college: Weber St.) scored 11 points and 5 steals. DCU Mercy maintains third place with 9-5 record having seven points less than leader Glanmire. Loser WIT Wildcats dropped to the sixth position with seven games lost. DCU Mercy will meet at home P.Panthers (#5) in the next round. WIT Wildcats will play against Brunell in Cork and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
