Second Stage Round 7: Tobol - Kapshagay 97-103

The most crucial game of the last round was a loss of top-ranked Tobol (14-4) in Kostanay on Thursday night. Hosts were defeated by second ranked Kapshagay (11-7) 103-97. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Tobol. It may be a crucial game in the contest for the top position in the league. Kapshagay made 21-of-27 free shots (77.8 percent) during the game. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 27 assists. Worth to mention a great performance of point guard Daniil Seleznev (187-90) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 25 points, 6 rebounds and 11 assists. The former international swingman Konstantin Dvirniy (192-88) contributed with 20 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. Kapshagay's coach Dmitri Korovnikov used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Forward Anton Bykov (200-89) answered with a double-double by scoring 40 points (!!!) and 21 rebounds and the former international point guard Timur Sultanov (178-78) added 13 points and 8 assists in the effort for Tobol. Five Kapshagay and four Tobol players scored in double figures. Kapshagay have a solid series of four victories in a row. They maintain second place with 11-7 record having just three points less than leader Bars. Tobol at the other side still keeps top position with four games lost. Kapshagay are looking forward to face bottom-ranked Kaspiy-2 (#10) in Aktau in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Tobol will play at home against Almat.Legion (#3) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
