Date: March 17, 2017
The most crucial game of the last round was another loss of Toshiba Thunders (37-8) in Kanagawa on Friday night. Hosts were rolled over by Aishin Sea Horses (35-10) 92-65. It was a key game for the top position in the league. Aishin Sea Horses had a 32-20 advantage in offensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. The former international center JR Sakuragi (206-76, college: UCLA) scored 20 points and 6 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and American power forward Gavin Edwards (206-88, college: Connecticut) chipped in 12 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists during the contest. Five Aishin Sea Horses players scored in double figures. At the losing side American forward Nick Fazekas (211-85, college: Nevada) responded with 17 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists and the former international swingman Naoto Tsuji (185-89) scored 12 points. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Aishin Sea Horses have a solid four-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 35-10 record which they share with defeated Toshiba Thunders. Toshiba Thunders at the other side still keep top place with eight games lost. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.
