Regular Season Round 2: Contagem - Botafogo F.R. 82-78

The most crucial game of the last round was a loss of Botafogo F.R. (3-1) on the court of Contagem on Friday night. Visitors were defeated by Contagem 82-78. Contagem forced 24 Botafogo F.R. turnovers. Strangely Botafogo F.R. outrebounded Contagem 45-31 including 33 on the defensive glass. 24 personal fouls committed by Botafogo F.R. helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. The best player for the winners was forward Fernando Alvim (201-80) who had a double-double by scoring 30 points and 13 rebounds. Rodrigo Maistro (200-87) chipped in 23 points and 5 steals. American point guard Jamaal Smith (175-85, college: N.Mexico) produced 22 points and 9 assists (was perfect 11-for-11 from the free throw line !!!) and power forward Abner Moreira (206-89, college: Idaho St.) added 11 points, 15 rebounds and 4 assists respectively for the guests. Botafogo F.R.'s coach Marcio Andrade tried various players' combinations and tested in total twelve players in this game, but that didn't help. Contagem is looking forward to face Santos/Macapa (#4) in the next round. Botafogo F.R. will play against Blumenau and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
