Regular Season Round 28: Helmi Basket - HyPo 57-85

Date: March 18, 2017
Very expected game in Helsinki where 10th ranked Helmi Basket (4-23) was crushed by first ranked HyPo (24-3) 85-57 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by HyPo. Helmi Basket was better in fourth quarter 23-14. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. HyPo dominated down low during the game scoring 58 of its points in the paint compared to Helmi Basket's 36 and made 18-of-22 free shots (81.8 percent) during the game. HyPo looked well-organized offensively handing out 26 assists. Worth to mention a great performance of the former international power forward Niina Laaksonen (185-85) who helped to win the game recording 26 points (made all of her eight free throws) and American guard Bria Goss (178-92, college: Kentucky) who added 15 points and 6 assists during the contest. At the losing side international center Sofia Rajala (181-98) responded with 24 points and international guard Lotta-Maj Lahtinen (173-99) scored 10 points and 4 assists. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. HyPo have an impressive six-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 24-3 record. Helmi Basket lost eighth consecutive game. Newly promoted team stay dead last with 23 lost games.
