Regular Season Round 24: Rivas - La Roda 87-95

There was no surprise when 15th ranked Rivas (4-20) was defeated at home by fourth ranked La Roda (17-7) 95-87 on Saturday. The game without a history. La Roda led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They made 17-of-22 free shots (77.3 percent) during the game. Rivas was plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. The best player for the winners was American guard DeAngelo Hailey (190-90, college: NW Missouri St.) who scored 24 points and 7 rebounds. American-Liberian guard Jeremy Williams (185-91, college: New Haven) chipped in 21 points. Worth to mention Williams played also at Eurobasket Summer League, which helped get the job in pro basketball. Five La Roda players scored in double figures. At the other side the best for losing team was power forward Angel Gomez (197-87) who recorded a double-double by scoring 25 points and 11 rebounds and guard Miguel Zamora (189-93) added 15 points and 5 assists respectively. Rivas' coach Juanjo Simon let to play ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. La Roda have a solid four-game winning streak. They maintain fourth position in Group B with 17-7 record. Rivas lost third consecutive game. Newly promoted team keeps the fifteenth place with 20 games lost. La Roda will face Villarrobledo (#7) at home in the next round. Rivas will play against Viten Fuen. (#16) in Madrid and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
