Regular Season Round 23: Joventut LC - Oviedo 81-69

Not a big story in a game in Barcelona where 11th ranked Oviedo (8-15) was defeated by fifth ranked Joventut LC (14-9) 81-69 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by Joventut LC. Oviedo was better in third quarter 27-18. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Joventut LC dominated down low during the game scoring 60 of its points in the paint compared to Oviedo's 32. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists comparing to just 7 passes made by Oviedo's players. The best player for the winners was Nerea Garmendia who had a double-double by scoring 22 points and 10 rebounds. Center Paula Tutusaus (186-95) chipped in 16 points. Joventut LC's coach used an eleven-player rotation and allowed the starting five to get some rest. American forward Joy Brown (180-93, college: Iona) produced a double-double by scoring 12 points, 15 rebounds and 4 assists and Canadian guard Mariah Nunes (178-93, college: Ryerson) added 25 points respectively for the guests. Four Oviedo players scored in double figures. Joventut LC moved-up to fourth place in Group A. Oviedo lost third consecutive game. They dropped to the twelfth position with 15 games lost. Joventut LC will face higher ranked Cortegada (#3) in Vilagarcia Arousa in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Oviedo will play on the road against Maquinaria Ensino (#10) in Lugo and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
