Regular Season Round 23: Azkoitia - ADBA 74-66

The game between closely ranked teams ended with twelfth ranked Azkoitia's (8-14) home victory over 13th ranked ADBA (7-16) 74-66 on Saturday. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 17-10. But ADBA won second period 25-19. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was decided in the last minutes when Azkoitia won last quarter 19-12. They made 20-of-23 free shots (87.0 percent) during the game. Azkoitia outrebounded ADBA 41-30 including 32 on the defensive glass. The best player for the winners was American guard Chloe Wells (173-92, college: Duke) who scored 27 points, 5 rebounds, 6 assists and 6 steals (was perfect 10-for-10 from the free throw line !!!). Her fellow American import forward Laura Johnson (182-91, college: Sioux Falls) chipped in a double-double by scoring 16 points and 14 rebounds. Azkoitia's coach used a ten-player rotation and allowed the starting five to get some rest. Sara Sanchez (173-93) produced 18 points and French forward Rudiane Eduardo (185-93, college: UTEP) added 13 points and 9 rebounds respectively for the guests. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Azkoitia moved-up to eleventh place in Group A. Loser ADBA keeps the thirteenth position with 16 games lost. Azkoitia will face higher ranked Arxil Pontevedra (#6) on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. ADBA will play against the league's second-placed Sant Adria (#2) and will have a slim chance for a victory.
