Top Division I top team - Gent Hawks (19-4) added another victory to their record on Saturday. This time they beat eleventh ranked Ieper (8-16) 58-52. The guests trailed by 2 points after first quarter, but they rallied back to get the 8-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 58-52. The winners were led by forward Joeri Vermoessen (200-93) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 13 points and 16 rebounds and guard Robin Spaens (180-92) supported him with 15 points and 5 rebounds. Even 14 points and 6 rebounds by swingman Robin Mestdagh (195-88, college: E.Kentucky) did not help to save the game for Ieper. Center Gilles Dierickx (213-92, college: Seattle Pacific) added 8 points and 9 rebounds. Ieper's coach Frederic Claessens rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Gent Hawks have a solid three-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 19-4 record. Ieper lost fourth consecutive game. They dropped to the twelfth place with 16 games lost. Gent Hawks will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Ieper will play against Gistel Oostende (#11) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
