Regular Season Round 22: Bolzano - Empoli 54-57

Twelfth-ranked Bolzano (5-17) made lots of trouble for second ranked Empoli (19-3) on Saturday. The visitors from Empoli managed to secure only three-point victory 57-54. However their fans expected much easier game. The guests were tied at the half but managed to speed up in last two quarters eventually winning the game. Empoli dominated on the defensive end, holding Bolzano to just 6 points in fourth quarter. Lithuanian forward Gabriele Narviciute (190-90) fired a double-double by scoring 16 points and 14 rebounds for the winners. Forward Guia Sesoldi (180-87) chipped in 9 points and 12 rebounds. Empoli's coach Alessio Cioni used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. Croatian power forward Ivona Matic (189-86) produced a double-double by scoring 16 points and 14 rebounds and guard Giulia Piermattei (170-93) added 11 points and 5 rebounds respectively for lost side. Empoli have an impressive eight-game winning streak. They maintain second position with 19-3 record behind leader Vicenza. Bolzano lost third consecutive game. They keep the twelfth place with 17 games lost. Empoli are looking forward to face league's leader Sesto SG in Sesto San Giovanni in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Bolzano will play on the road against Costa Masnaga (#6) and is hoping to prove to their fans that they can break losing series.
