Date: March 18, 2017
Another exciting game was a derby match between two local teams from Madrid: ASEFA Estudiantes (#4) and Olimpico 64 (#14). ASEFA Estudiantes (18-5) crushed visiting Olimpico 64 (3-20) by 22 points 61-39. The game without a history. ASEFA Estudiantes led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Olimpico 64 to just 7 points in second quarter. ASEFA Estudiantes forced 19 Olimpico 64 turnovers and outrebounded them 54-31 including a 22-5 advantage in offensive rebounds. The best player for the winners was Latvian power forward Linda Rubene (189-91, college: Indiana) who had a double-double by scoring 16 points and 11 rebounds. Center Mariana Gonzalez (187-88) chipped in 12 points and 7 rebounds. The former international power forward Irene Herradas (186-78) produced 10 points and 9 rebounds and power forward Katia Javier (182-93) added 8 points respectively for the guests. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. ASEFA Estudiantes have an impressive series of eleven victories in a row. They moved-up to second place in Group B, which they share with Alcobendas. Olimpico 64 lost third consecutive game. They keep the fourteenth position with 20 games lost. ASEFA Estudiantes will face Promete (#9) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Olimpico 64 will play against Adareva (#7) and hope to win that game.
