Regular Season Round 24: Novaschool - Utrera 77-57

There was a minor upset in Malaga where second-best Utrera (7-5) was crushed by fifth ranked Novaschool (7-5) 77-57 on Sunday. The game was mostly controlled by Novaschool. Utrera was better in fourth quarter 18-13. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Utrera to just 5 points in first quarter. They outrebounded Utrera 45-30 including a 40-23 advantage in defensive rebounds. Utrera was plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. The best player for the winners was American forward Alex Jackson (200-84, college: Mo.-St.Louis) who had a double-double by scoring 21 points and 10 rebounds (on 9-of-11 shooting from the field). Point guard Fernando Ferruz (180) chipped in 22 points and 5 assists. Jackson is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. At the other side the best for losing team was American guard Jordan Thomas (196, college: St.Mary's, KS) who recorded 16 points and power forward Daniel Ruiz (200-81) added 6 points and 6 rebounds respectively. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Novaschool moved-up to second place in Group D Perman, which they share with 3 other teams including defeated Utrera. Novaschool will face league's second-placed Plasencia on the road in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Utrera will play against Coin and hope to win that game.
