The game between second ranked Umana Venezia (15-8) and 7th ranked Auxilium TO (11-12) in Venezia on Sunday ended with biggest points difference. Umana Venezia outscored guests from Torino 89-70. Auxilium TO trailed 36-35 at halftime, rallying from a 25-9 deficit at the end of first quarter to trim the gap. Umana Venezia looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. Canadian-Nigerian forward Melvin Ejim (200-91, college: Iowa St.) orchestrated the victory by scoring 13 points, 8 rebounds and 7 assists. Croatian forward Hrvoje Peric (203-85) contributed with 17 points and 5 rebounds for the winners. American swingman Deron Washington (201-85, college: Virginia Tech) answered with 15 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists and the other American import guard Tyler Harvey (193-93, college: E.Washington) added 13 points and 5 rebounds in the effort for Auxilium TO. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The victory was the third consecutive win for Umana Venezia. They maintain second place with 15-8 record having five points less than leader EA7 Armani, which they share with Scandone AV. Loser Auxilium TO dropped to the eighth position with 12 games lost. Umana Venezia will face Juvecaserta (#14) in Caserta in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Auxilium TO will play at home against AV Cantu (#11) and hope to win that game.
