Regular Season Round 11: Astana - Barsy Atyrau 79-74

Leader Astana faced second-ranked Barsy Atyrau. Host Astana (16-0) defeated guests from Atyrau (5-9) 79-74. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Barsy Atyrau won third quarter 17-11. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was decided in the last minutes when Astana won last quarter 28-24. Barsy Atyrau was plagued by 25 personal fouls down the stretch. American guard Ian Miller (190-91, college: Florida St., agency: BeoBasket) orchestrated the victory by scoring 34 points (!!!), 7 rebounds and 6 assists. The former international power forward Anton Ponomaryov (208-88, agency: BeoBasket) contributed with 6 points and 9 rebounds for the winners. American point guard Trevin Parks (180-91, college: Johnson C. Smith) answered with 29 points and 8 rebounds and the former international swingman Nikolay Bazhkin (198-90) added 24 points and 12 rebounds in the effort for Barsy Atyrau. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. The victory was the sixteenth consecutive win for Astana. They maintain first place with 16-0 record. Defending champion Barsy Atyrau keeps the second position with nine games lost. Astana will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Barsy Atyrau will play at home against Kaspiy Aktau and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
