Rather predictable result in Mar del Plata where sixth ranked Argentino (22-21) beat 8th ranked Penarol (16-28) 83-74 on Thursday. The guests started the game with a very strong first quarter 31-13. But Penarol won second period 19-10. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Argentino had a 31-19 advantage in offensive rebounds. Penarol was plagued by 25 personal fouls down the stretch. The former international point guard Luis Cequeira (180-85) fired 22 points and 5 assists (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field) for the winners. American guard Novar Gadson (201-89, college: Rider, agency: DTMones) chipped in 16 points and 7 rebounds. Four Argentino players scored in double figures. Alejandro Diez (201-87) produced 17 points and 9 rebounds and the former international forward Leonardo Gutierrez (200-78) added 15 points and 7 rebounds respectively for lost side. Argentino have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to fourth place, which they share with GECR Indalo. Penarol lost third consecutive game. They keep the eighth position with 28 games lost. Argentino will face higher ranked Weber Bahia (#3) in Bahia Blanca in the next round and it may be the game of the week. Penarol will play on the road against Olimpico de La Banda (#5) and hope to win that game.
