Regular Season Round 38: Kouvot - Korihait 83-81

Tenth-ranked UU-Korihait (5-30) was very close to win a game against sixth ranked Kouvot (16-19) in Kouvola on Friday. Kouvot managed to secure only two-point victory 83-81. However their fans expected much easier game. UU-Korihait trailed by 16 points after 3 quarters before a 25-11 run in the last quarter cut the deficit to 81-83 at the end of the game. American players dominated the game. Forward Rakeem Buckles (203-90, college: FIU) notched a double-double by scoring 20 points and 12 rebounds to lead the effort and guard Raheem Appleby (190-93, college: Louisiana Tech) supported him with 14 points and 4 assists. Even 21 points and 5 rebounds by guard Emmanuel Holloway (185-86, college: Illinois St., agency: Blacktop Management) did not help to save the game for UU-Korihait. Forward Gary Johnson (198-91, college: Albany) added 11 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists for the guests. Four Kouvot and five UU-Korihait players scored in double figures. Kouvot have a solid three-game winning streak. Defending champion moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Lapua. UU-Korihait lost fifth consecutive game. Newly promoted team stay dead last with 30 lost games. Kouvot will meet league's leader Salon Vilpas on the road in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. UU-Korihait will play against Tampereen Pyrinto (#8) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
