Regular Season Round 38: Kataja Basket - Kauhajoki 78-89

The most important game in the last round took place in Joensuu between third ranked Joensuun Kataja (24-10) and fourth ranked Kauhajoen Karhu (21-14) on Friday night. Joensuun Kataja was defeated by Kauhajoen Karhu at home 78-89. The game was mostly controlled by Kauhajoen Karhu. Joensuun Kataja managed to win third quarter 24-21. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Kauhajoen Karhu made 27-of-32 free shots (84.4 percent) during the game. Kauhajoen Karhu outrebounded Joensuun Kataja 38-26 including 16 on the offensive glass. 25 personal fouls committed by Joensuun Kataja helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. American swingman Austin Hollins (195-91, college: Minnesota) orchestrated the victory by scoring 21 points, 9 rebounds and 6 assists. The other American import forward DeVaughn Washington (202-89, college: Ohio) contributed with 16 points and 6 rebounds for the winners. Four Kauhajoen Karhu players scored in double figures. Canadian guard Daniel Mullings (188-91, college: N.Mexico St.) replied with a double-double by scoring 21 points and 12 rebounds and American Rion Brown (198-91, college: Miami, FL) added 20 points (was perfect 10-for-10 from the free throw line !!!) in the effort for Joensuun Kataja. Kauhajoen Karhu maintains fourth position with 21-14 record. Joensuun Kataja at the other side dropped to the second place with ten games lost. Kauhajoen Karhu are looking forward to face Lapuan Korikobrat (#5) on the road in the next round. Joensuun Kataja will play against BC Nokia and is hoping to win this game.
