Regular Season Round 17: Homenetmen - Al Riyadi 67-49

Another exciting game was a derby match between two teams from Beirut: Homenetmen (#1) and Al Riyadi (#2). Homenetmen (16-1) crushed visiting Al Riyadi (13-4) by 18 points 67-49. It ended at the same time the nine-game winning streak of Al Riyadi. It looked good early as Al Riyadi took a 1-point small lead at the end of first quarter. But then Homenetmen had a 14-8 second period charge getting the lead and Al Riyadi was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 49-67. American forward Dewayne Jackson (203-90, college: Morgan St., agency: Higher Vision Sports) nailed 24 points and 7 rebounds for the winning side and American-Iraqi point guard Kevin Galloway (200-88, college: Texas Southern) accounted for 16 points, 8 rebounds, 8 assists and 4 steals. Nigerian power forward Alade Aminu (210-87, college: Georgia Tech, agency: Three Eye Sports) came up with a double-double by scoring 12 points and 11 rebounds and Serbian swingman Branko Cvetkovic (200-84, agency: AproK Sports Group) added 15 points respectively for Al Riyadi in the defeat. Homenetmen have an impressive series of nine victories in a row. They maintain first place with 16-1 record. Defending champion Al Riyadi keeps the second position with four games lost. Homenetmen will play against Champville (#6) in Dik El Mehdi in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Al Riyadi's supporters look forward to another derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Beirut Sagesse.
