Regular Season Round 24: Chalons-Reims - Le Portel 77-68

There was a surprise result when fourteenth ranked Chalons-Reims (9-15) beat at home higher ranked Le Portel (11-13) 77-68 on Friday. Le Portel was trailing by 5 points at halftime but managed to get 4-point lead after three quarters before a 23-10 charge of Chalons-Reims, which allowed them to win the game. Worth to mention a great performance of American forward Steven Smith (203-83, college: La Salle) who helped to win the game recording 16 points and 8 rebounds and Dutch center Nicolas de-Jong (210-88) who added 21 points during the contest. The best for the losing side was American center Jakim Donaldson (204-83, college: Edinboro) with a double-double by scoring 15 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field) and his fellow American import power forward Franklin Hassell (203-88, college: ODU) scored 16 points and 8 rebounds. Four Le Portel players scored in double figures. Le Portel's coach Eric Girard rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Chalons-Reims moved-up to twelfth place, which they share with Dijon and Hyeres-Toulon. Loser Le Portel keeps the ninth position with 13 games lost. Chalons-Reims will face higher ranked Strasbourg IG (#6) at home in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game.
