Regular Season Round 23: Salerno - Bologna 47-71

Very expected game when 13th ranked Salerno (2-19) was smashed at home by second ranked Bologna (18-2) 71-47 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by Bologna. Salerno was better in second period 14-11. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Salerno to just 4 points in third quarter. Bologna dominated down low during the game scoring 48 of its points in the paint compared to Salerno's 28. Bologna forced 23 Salerno turnovers. Point guard Elisabetta Tassinari (175-94) orchestrated the victory by scoring 7 points and 6 assists. Power forward Marta Meroni (185-93) contributed with 11 points and 5 rebounds for the winners. Bologna's coach Paolo Andreoli felt very confident using 10 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Irish power forward Sarah Kenny (180-97) answered with 15 points and 8 rebounds and power forward Giorgia Assentato (177-99) added 11 points in the effort for Salerno. Bologna maintains second place in A2 with 18-2 record having five points less than leader Sesto SG. Loser Salerno keeps the thirteenth position with 19 games lost. Bologna will face Pordenone (#11) at home in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Salerno will play against Fanola SML in San Martino di L and hope to win that game.
