Regular Season Round 3: Mazatlan - Culiacan 91-81

Very important is a road loss of Caballeros de Culiacan (1-1) against Lobos UAD Mazatlan (1-1) on Saturday night. Visiting Caballeros de Culiacan was defeated by Lobos UAD Mazatlan in Mazatlan 91-81. It looked good early as Caballeros de Culiacan took a 6-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then Lobos UAD Mazatlan had a 31-16 second period charge getting the lead and Caballeros de Culiacan was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 81-91. Lobos UAD Mazatlan dominated down low during the game scoring 64 of its points in the paint compared to Caballeros de Culiacan's 36. It was an exceptional evening for American power forward Taj Gray (204-84, college: Oklahoma) who led the winners and scored 22 points. His fellow American import swingman Cliff Tucker (198-89, college: Maryland) accounted for 18 points and 6 assists for the winning side. Lobos UAD Mazatlan's coach Eric Weissling allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. Trinidad and Tobago-American point guard Ian Young (191-81, college: Auburn, agency: Interperformances) came up with 24 points and 5 assists and Canadian forward Grandy Glaze (204, college: Grand Canyon) added 17 points and 8 rebounds respectively for Caballeros de Culiacan in the defeat. Four Lobos UAD Mazatlan and five Caballeros de Culiacan players scored in double figures. Lobos UAD Mazatlan will play against Aguilas Doradas de Durango (#10) on the road in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Caballeros de Culiacan will play against Garra Canera de Navolato (#6) to get more than just one victory in their record.
