Regular Season Round 30: SAP Vaucluse - Gries/Oberhoffen 87-98

Date: March 25, 2017
Everything could happen in Sorgues at the game between two tied teams. Both twelfth ranked Gries/Oberhoffen and 13th ranked SAP Vaucluse had identical 13-16 record. But SAP Vaucluse was not able to use a home court advantage and was defeated by the opponent from Bischwiller 98-87 on Saturday night. Gries/Oberhoffen dominated down low during the game scoring 66 of its points in the paint compared to SAP Vaucluse's 38 and made 17-of-20 free shots (85.0 percent) during the game. They outrebounded SAP Vaucluse 34-23 including a 30-18 advantage in defensive rebounds. Lithuanian point guard Ovidijus Varanauskas (187-91) scored 24 points and 7 rebounds (on 9-of-11 shooting from the field) to lead the charge for the winners and Lithuanian forward Rolandas Jakstas (202-92) chipped in 24 points and 6 rebounds during the contest. The best for the losing side was American point guard Deremy Geiger (180-90, college: Idaho, agency: Blacktop Management) with 19 points and Lithuanian forward Darius Tarvydas (200-91) scored 15 points. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. SAP Vaucluse's coach Sylvain Lautie rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Newly promoted Gries/Oberhoffen maintains twelfth position with 14-16 record. Loser SAP Vaucluse keeps the thirteenth place with 17 games lost. Gries/Oberhoffen will face higher ranked Saint Vallier (#11) at home in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. SAP Vaucluse will play against GET Vosges in Golbey and hope to win that game.
