Date: March 25, 2017
Bottom-ranked Gran Canaria managed to get a fifth victory, breaking the series of three consecutive losses on Saturday night. This time they outleveled fifth-ranked Araski in Las Palmas 91-53. It's especially surprising that the victory came too easily and 38-point difference proves that Gran Canaria was well-prepared to that game. The game without a history. Gran Canaria led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated down low during the game scoring 60 of its points in the paint compared to Araski's 26. They outrebounded Araski 54-28 including a 19-8 advantage in offensive rebounds. Gran Canaria looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists comparing to just 9 passes made by Araski's players. American Amber Holt (183-85, college: Middle Tenn.St.) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 17 points and 10 rebounds for the winners and Mali center Mariam Coulibaly (183-97) chipped in 12 points and 12 rebounds. Four Gran Canaria players scored in double figures. At the losing side American Margaret Roundtree (183-88, college: Gardner-Webb, agency: ProDep Management) responded with 11 points and forward Ane Aldalur (178-89) scored 12 points. Gran Canaria maintains fourteenth place with 5-20 record. Newly promoted Araski keeps the fifth position with 12 games lost. They share it with Cadi La Seu and Gipuzkoa UPV. Gran Canaria will meet league's leader Perfumerias Avenida in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Araski will play against Zamarat (#12) and hope to secure a win.
