There was no surprise when 11th ranked Sangiorgese (11-14) was crushed on the road by eighth ranked Piombino (13-12) 101-57 on Sunday. Piombino made 19-of-25 free shots (76.0 percent) during the game. They also forced 22 Sangiorgese turnovers and outrebounded them 40-21 including 27 on the defensive glass. Piombino looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists comparing to just 8 passes made by Sangiorgese's players. Forward Alessio Iardella (193-88, agency: Players Group) fired 13 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists for the winners. Guard Edoardo Pedroni (183-98, agency: Octagon Europe) chipped in 19 points and 4 steals. Forward Daniele-Mario Benzoni (196-80) produced 12 points and forward Fabio Cuccarese (199-96, agency: Octagon Europe) added 11 points respectively for lost side. Five Piombino and four Sangiorgese players scored in double figures. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Piombino moved-up to seventh place, which they share with Porto S.Elpidio and Crema. Loser Sangiorgese dropped to the eighth position with 14 games lost. Piombino will face Firenze Enic (#15) at home in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Sangiorgese will play against USE Basket (#6) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
