Regular Season Round 23: Orvieto - Milano 68-61

Very important is a road loss of third ranked Milano (16-7) against fourth ranked Orvieto (16-6) on Sunday night. Visiting Milano was defeated by Orvieto in a tough game in Orvieto 61-68. The hosts trailed by 3 points after three quarters before their 27-17 charge, which allowed them to win the game. Orvieto made 31-of-38 free shots (81.6 percent) during the game, while Milano only scored ten points from the stripe. Strangely Milano outrebounded Orvieto 43-30 including a 16-4 advantage in offensive rebounds. It was an exceptional evening for Lithuanian power forward Gintare Mazionyte (188-91, college: Texas) who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 15 points and 14 rebounds (was perfect 12-for-12 from the free throw line !!!). Guard Greta Brunelli (176-90) accounted for 16 points for the winning side. Four Orvieto players scored in double figures. Forward Giulia Maffenini (175-92, agency: Two Points) came up with 20 points and 6 rebounds and power forward Stefania Guarneri (182-95) added 15 points and 11 rebounds respectively for Milano in the defeat. Orvieto moved-up to third place in A2. Loser Milano dropped to the fifth position with seven games lost. Orvieto will meet San Salvatore (#10) on the road in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Milano will play against Alghero (#14) and hope to secure a win.
