Regular Season Round 24: Ironi Nahariya - Maccabi Haifa 78-69
Date: March 26, 2017
The game in Nahariya was also quite interesting. 6th ranked Maccabi Haifa (12-12) played at the court of eighth ranked Ironi Nahariya (11-13). Ironi Nahariya managed to secure a 9-point victory 78-69 on Sunday. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Maccabi Haifa. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Maccabi Haifa won third quarter 20-13. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Ironi Nahariya dominated down low during the game scoring 52 of its points in the paint compared to Maccabi Haifa's 20. The winners were led by American power forward Yancy Gates (206-89, college: Cincinnati) who scored that evening 23 points and 6 rebounds and the other American import swingman Scotty Hopson (200-89, college: Tennessee) supported him with 18 points and 5 rebounds. Ironi Nahariya's coach Eric Elfasi used a ten-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. Even 20 points and 9 rebounds by American swingman William Graves (198-88, college: N.Carolina) did not help to save the game for Maccabi Haifa. Venezuelan point guard Gregory Vargas (180-86, agency: Pro Sports) added 12 points and 6 rebounds. Ironi Nahariya maintains eighth position with 11-13 record, which they share with Maccabi Rishon. Loser Maccabi Haifa keeps the sixth place with 12 games lost. They share the position with Hapoel T-A. Ironi Nahariya will meet bottom-ranked Maccabi K/G (#12) in the next round. Maccabi Haifa will play against Maccabi Rishon (#8) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
