Regular Season Round 5: Durango - Mazatlan 98-87

Date: March 29, 2017
Aguilas Doradas de Durango's fans can celebrate the first win of their team after four consecutive losses. The victory is especially important as they defeated much higher ranked Lobos UAD Mazatlan (2-2) 98-87 on Wednesday. Aguilas Doradas de Durango made 18-of-23 free shots (78.3 percent) during the game. American power forward Dominique Keller (205-88, college: Illinois) nailed 31 points and 5 rebounds for the winning side and Martin Zamarco accounted for 24 points and 4 assists. Keller is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. The former international forward Michael Lizarraga (200-89, college: CS Northridge) came up with 14 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists and American power forward Taj Gray (204-84, college: Oklahoma) added 22 points respectively for Lobos UAD Mazatlan in the defeat. Four Lobos UAD Mazatlan players scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Aguilas Doradas de Durango (1-4) left bottom position moving up to ninth place. Defending champion Lobos UAD Mazatlan dropped to the fifth position with two games lost. They share it with Obregon and Guaymas. Aguilas Doradas de Durango will meet at home higher ranked Caballeros de Culiacan (#8) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Lobos UAD Mazatlan will play against the league's second-placed Frayles de Guasave and will have a slim chance for a victory.
