Regular Season Round 8: Toros - Guaiqueries 85-86

Fifth-ranked Toros (3-9) made lots of trouble for third ranked Guaiqueries (8-6) in Maracay. The visitors from Porlamar managed to secure only one-point victory 86-85. However their fans expected easier game. The winners were led by American guard Devan Downey (175-87, college: S.Carolina, agency: Octagon Europe) who scored that evening 24 points, 5 assists and 4 steals and the other American import forward Marcus Melvin (206-82, college: N.Carolina St.) supported him with 13 points and 6 rebounds. Even 30 points and 5 assists by Dominican guard Kelvin Pena (193-80, college: Southeastern CC) did not help to save the game for Toros. Dominican forward Juan Guerrero (201-93) added 11 points and 9 rebounds for the hosts. Toros' coach Ivan Garcia tested ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Guaiqueries have a solid four-game winning streak. They moved-up to second place, which they share with Trotamundos. Toros at the other side keep the fifth position with nine games lost. Guaiqueries' next round opponent will be league's second-placed Gigantes in Puerto Ordaz and it will be for sure the game of the week. Toros will play on the road against the league's second-placed Trotamundos in Valencia and hope to win that game.
