Regular Season Round 3: Lakeside L. - Kalamunda E.S. 76-70
Date: March 31, 2017
Very expected game in Bullcreek where Suns (0-4) were defeated by Lightning (2-1) 76-70 on Friday. However just six-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. Suns trailed by 19 points after 3 quarters before a 25-12 run in the last quarter cut the deficit to 70-76 at the end of the game. They outrebounded Suns 44-32 including a 34-20 advantage in defensive rebounds. Lightning looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. It was a great evening for American forward Sydnee Fipps (178, college: Cal-Davis) who led her team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 16 points, 11 rebounds and 6 assists. Her fellow American import forward Ali Schwagmeyer (180-90, college: Quincy) helped adding 21 points. The best for the losing side was power forward Jennie Rintala (-90) with a double-double by scoring 31 points and 12 rebounds (went 8 for 8 at the free throw line) and Tahlia Fejo scored 16 points and 4 assists. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Lightning will face Flames (#9) in Rockingham in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Suns will play on the road against Magic in Mandurah and look forward to get finally their first victory.
