Not a big story in a game in Hamilton Hill where 11th ranked Cougars (2-2) were defeated by ninth ranked Hawks (2-1) 97-90 on Friday. The guests trailed by 7 points after three quarters before their 32-18 charge, which allowed them to win the game. Hawks dominated down low during the game scoring 64 of its points in the paint compared to Cougars' 44 and made 18-of-23 free shots (78.3 percent) during the game. They outrebounded Cougars 46-25 including a 32-17 advantage in defensive rebounds. The best player for the winners was American center Brian Carlwell (211-87, college: San Diego St.) who had a double-double by scoring 24 points and 15 rebounds (on 11-of-14 shooting from the field). The former international forward Ben Purser (201-90, college: Augusta) chipped in 25 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists. Hawks' coach allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. Point guard Lochlan Cummings (183, college: Hope International) produced 25 points and 4 assists (was perfect 9-for-9 from the free throw line !!!) and American forward Jalen Billups (198-92, college: N.Kentucky, agency: Haylett Sports) added 23 points and 8 rebounds respectively for the hosts. Five Hawks and four Cougars players scored in double figures. Hawks moved-up to fifth place in League. Loser Cougars dropped to the seventh position with two games lost. Hawks will face Tigers (#6) in Willetton in the next round. Cougars will play on the road against Buccaneers in Wonthella and hope to win that game.
