Regular Season Round 24: Kutaisi - Rustavi 87-77
Date: March 31, 2017
An interesting game for Kutaisi (17-6) which hosted in Kutaisi one of their biggest challengers Energy Invest (13-11). Second ranked Kutaisi managed to get a 10-point victory 87-77. The game was mostly controlled by Kutaisi. Energy Invest managed to win third quarter 25-15. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was decided in the last minutes when Kutaisi won last quarter 24-16. They made 24-of-29 free shots (82.8 percent) during the game. Kutaisi had a 29-18 advantage in offensive rebounds. The winners were led by international point guard Giorgi Tsintsadze (192-86) who scored that evening 28 points and 6 assists and forward Giorgi Barbakadze (203-91) supported him with 17 points and 4 assists (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field). Even 14 points and 8 rebounds (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field) by American forward Thomas Spagnolo (201-91, college: Appalachian St.) did not help to save the game for Energy Invest. His fellow American import forward Maurice Lewis-Briggs (203-90, college: Slippery Rock) added 16 points and 7 rebounds. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Kutaisi have a solid three-game winning streak. Defending champion maintains second position with 17-6 record having seven points less than leader Dinamo Tbilisi. Loser Energy Invest keeps the third place with 11 games lost. Kutaisi will meet Olimpi (#6) in the next round. Energy Invest will play against Batumi and hope to secure a win.
